Alternative Learning Program (ALP)

The Alternative Learning Program (ALP) is a remandment program for students in grades 6 - 12 who have severe violations of student conduct at their home schools and have been suspended for more than 10 days. The remandment period may be for any time from one grading period to one calendar year. The student will work on a computer based program (Plato) that is aligned with the Tennessee curriculum.

Dress Code for ALP (Alternative Learning Program) and GED Students

Each student at Midtown Education Center (MEC) is given two grey shirts (free of charge) to be worn while attending MEC either in the ALP Program or the GED Program. The student will need to return the shirts in good condition when they leave either program. If the shirts are damaged or not returned when leaving the program, a charge of $6.00 per shirt will be issued. If you would like to purchase additional shirts, the fee will be $6.00 per shirt.

We have established a dress code requiring each student in the ALP and the GED programs to wear the grey shirts tucked in with a belt. The pants can be either regular blue jeans or khakis. Tennis shoes are required. No flip flops. No jewelry is to be worn while attending MEC. All Roane County Board policies are to be observed while attending MEC.

The student will be checked each day. The first violation of the dress code policy will result in the student receiving a warning. Each infraction thereafter will result in the student being sent home and charged with an unexcused absence if they do not return to school that same day.
